If Fish were a Place, I’d be in Whales

Written by Valen Watson
A play for two women

In it’s second draft writing phase -

Quote from Valen introducing the play we sometimes refer to as “FISH”

  • What in life is fate and what is imagined and realized?
  • When two strangers meet for the first time in a city park, it is the beginning of a journey into the possibilities of time and space realigned; of the power we have in the choices we make; and the ways in which we shape our world.
  • Quantum Physics as the key to a life philosophy is elegantly optimistic and opens the door to the heart of what we believe, what we see as reality, and how we define who we are.

The process of ‘work-shopping’ the play will begin in the summer. A first round of rehearsals are scheduled for September/October ’06.

Performance venues in Vancouver and other locations, TBA.

Teresa

This script is on-the-back-burner. Last year, Vancouver writer Yvonne Young researched and explored our theme from many angles.

Sixteenth century mystic, Teresa of Avila, inspires our study. Teresa, a wildly eccentric Carmelite, has been compared to Carl Jung with respect to the process of Individuation. Individuation refers to the movement into the wholeness of one’s personality, as union with the Divine deepens.

Teresa was a very articulate and wise observer of human interiority. Reading about her exceptional, dramatic life has given us material rich in possibilities. Reading her books and the biographical literature available has also given us a degree of anguish, in terms of depth and breadth of content.

Teresa will be a play for a solo performer blending the spoken word with expressive movement.
